For centuries, vintners have asked blessing from above for a fruitful and successful harvest. Clergy members offer a brief prayer blessing and sprinkling of holy water over the grapes and vines in the traditional ceremony followed by a harvest celebration featuring picnic style food, wine and community.For 27 years, Woodbridge Winery has celebrated the harvest with this time honored tradition, kicking off the annual harvest in Lodi Wine Country. This intimate celebration of the coming harvest included Mondavi family members, local grape growers and winery employees only. For the second year, everyone can celebrate the heritage of the Mondavi family during PrimoVino, literally first wine. July 29th, from 5 to 10 p.m. the winery will host PrimoVino, a traditional harvest celebration. Paying homage to the heritage of the Robert Mondavi family the winery will open its doors to the community and welcome guests to their heritage festival complete with live entertainment, food and wine demonstrations, and delicious regional specialty foods.This year’s event will build on the success of last year’s event where 1,400 guests enjoyed the food, wine, music and entertainment of the Heritage Festival. “Our goal is to bring the spirit of the harvest to life,” says Woodbridge Marketing Director Kevin Conner, “the people of Lodi and its neighboring towns will experience first hand the true spirits of community with this magical festival.” Stroll through PrimoVino and enjoy food and wine tasting, music, and masquerades. Explore the town square where local artisans demonstrate their crafts. Watch as artisans prepare brick oven pizza and cook classic Italian meatballs and sausage right before your eyes. Participate in comparative olive oils tastings with Sciabica Olive Oil Company or browse the specialty food and wine shop to take a few treats with you.Learn to play bocce ball, a traditional Italian ball game, with the Stockton Athletic Club and join in the PrimoVino Bocce Tournament. Back by popular demand, the “Mayor’s Cup” Grape Stomp will pair local officials from Lodi and its neighboring communities against each other for a face off competition. 1 Top Jordan Last year’s winners are ready to defend their titles. Come root for your favorite local celebrity!New this year, the Celebrity Kitchen will feature America’s Test Kitchen Chef Julia Collin Davison. America’s Test Kitchen is public television’s most popular cooking show bringing to life the pages of Cooks Illustrated Magazine. Known best for their chef’s ability to recreate and perfect of many of America’s favorite recipes. Chef Julia Davison will demonstrate authentic Italian and harvest theme dishes including fresh pasta and Alfredo sauce, ultimate meatballs, the best chicken marsala and the Cheap Air Jordans classic Italian dessert frico (cheese crisps) and berries and zabaglione paired with delicious Woodbridge wines. Everyone will take home these great recipes from the Celebrity Kitchen and are in for some great culinary giveaways. Continuing Robert Mondavi’s legacy of food and wine education, Woodbridge Winemakers will be pairing Woodbridge wines with gourmet food and discussing food and wine pairing in the Wine Education Seminars. Learn from local experts why Lodi is one of California’s top wine producing regions and taste a few of the regions signature wines. Tickets for the 2006 PrimoVino are available at the winery, by telephone at (209) 365-8139, mail or online at . Tickets, $30 in advance, $35 at the door and $20 for designated drivers, include entrance into PrimoVino and access to live entertainment and activities. Ticket prices also include food and wine tastings from local vendors, a Woodbridge wine glass and tote bag. Authentic Italian meals prepared by the Italo-Americano Club of Lodi will be available for purchase (most entrees $5-$7). Woodbridge wines by the glass will be available for $3 each. All proceeds from wine by the glass sales will benefit the American Heart Association. Woodbridge Winery is located at 5950 E. Woodbridge Road in Acampo, 1/2 mile east of Highway 99.
